Maintenance, Grounds & Facility Team Member

Girard Auction & Land Brokers, Inc. — Wakonda, South Dakota
Girard Auction & Land Brokers, Inc. is looking for a dependable, hard-working individual to join our team in a hands-on position involving equipment maintenance, facility upkeep, groundskeeping, auction setup, and customer assistance.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, working with their hands, operating equipment, and staying active. This is not a desk or computer position. No two weeks are exactly alike!

MAINTENANCE & EQUIPMENT DUTIES
  • Perform basic maintenance on tractors, mowers and equipment, including changing oil and fluids, replacing mower blades and other routine service.
  • Regularly wash and clean tractors, mowers, vehicles, trailers and other equipment.
  • Assist with loading and unloading equipment before and after auctions.
  • Load and unload trailers containing boxes, toys, signs, memorabilia, firearms and other auction merchandise.
  • Perform basic building repairs, upkeep and general maintenance.
  • ​ FACILITY & CUSTODIAL DUTIES
  • Clean and maintain restrooms on a regular schedule.
  • Sweep building floors and mop or vacuum as needed.
  • Help keep auction facilities clean, organized and presentable.
  • GROUNDSKEEPING
  • Mow and trim approximately 4 acres of company grounds.
  • Perform snow removal as needed.
  • Maintain landscaping, trees and general outdoor areas.
  • Help keep the property neat and professional throughout the year.

  • AUCTION-RELATED DUTIES
  • Assist with unpacking, sorting, tagging and packing auction merchandise.
  • Help set up facilities for upcoming auctions.
  • Work some auction days and assist customers with loading purchases.
  • Assist with pickup and transportation of collections.
  • Occasional travel may be required for off-site auctions or collection pickups, some overnight.

  • DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Basic experience operating tractors and skid loaders.
  • General handyman abilities, including light carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical work.
  • Ability to safely use common hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Dependable, punctual and willing to tackle a wide variety of jobs.
  • Professional appearance and ability to interact courteously with auction buyers, sellers and the public.
  • Ability to safely lift and move heavier items and remain on your feet for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to meet applicable legal and company requirements for handling, moving, or working around regulated auction merchandise.
  • Employment is subject to a background check consistent with applicable law and the requirements of the position.
HOURS & COMPENSATION

Pay depends on experience and qualifications. 
Approximately 30–48 hours per week, depending on the auction schedule and workload.  Flexible schedule most days to accommodate ballgames and other family/personal appointments.  May be some Saturdays & Sundays too. 
Additional bonuses may be paid following larger, labor-intensive auctions.

ABOUT GIRARD AUCTION
Girard Auction currently conducts approximately 100 days of personal property and real estate auctions each year, with auctions held throughout South Dakota and several surrounding states.

Our Wakonda operation includes 10 buildings and more than 14 acres of grounds, creating a year-round need for maintenance, groundskeeping, equipment operation, and auction support.
