Marvin had been in the auction business since 1970. A graduate of Reisch Auction School in Mason City, Iowa, Marv specialized in all types of real estate, antique and modern farm equipment, estates and antiques. Marv had conducted and been part of over 7,000 auctions during his 49 years in the business. 2010 marked Marv's 40th Anniversary in the Auction business. In 2011 Marv was inducted into the South Dakota Auctioneers Hall of Fame; the youngest to be inducted at the time. He had also served as a past President of the SDAA. He was a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wakonda. His wife, Pat, and three children, Carmen, Ken, and Mike, joined him in the business. Marv was also an Associate RE Broker through Girard Auction & Landbrokers, Inc. On his days off, Marv enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren at his cabin and will be greatly missed by the entire auction world. Ken Girard, CAI, AARE: Ken started in the auction business in 1997. He is a graduate of Continental Auction School in Mankato, Minnesota. He is the Responsible Real Estate Broker for Girard Auction & Land Brokers Inc. He also has a degree in Business Management from Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota. Ken holds the Certified Auctioneer's Institute designation (CAI), the highest degree that can be awarded to an auctioneer in the United States. He is currently also on the Board for the South Dakota Auctioneers Association and is a past winner of the SD Bid Calling Contest in 2001. Ken's wife, Sarah, also joins him in the business by assisting in the set-up of all of the Girard Auction internet auctions. Ken and Sarah also have a son, Ben, that was born in February of 2006 and a daughter, Natalie born in July of 2008. They are faithfull members of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Wakonda. Ken also serves as a volunteer firefighter for the Wakonda Fire Department. Mike Girard, CAI: Mike started in the auction business in September of 2006. He is a graduate of Continental Auction School in Mankato, MN and is also a Brokers Associate since April of 2007. Mike also has a degree in Recreation from the School of Education at the University of South Dakota. He worked as the Director of Communications for United Indoor Football in Omaha, NE for two years before joining the family business on a full-time basis. In March of 2010, Mike fullfilled his 3 year education program through the National Auctioneers Association to receive his CAI designation (Certified Auctioneer Institute). Mike won the Turner County Fair bid calling contest in Aug. of 2014. Mike was wed to Kasandra (Dillon) in June of 2009. Kasandra also helps with conducting many of the online toy auctions. They also have two sons, Micah Dillon Girard, who was born in Sept, 2010 and Walker Reed Girard born in April of 2012 and a daughter Grace Odel born November of 2016. Mike also serves as a volunteer firefighter on the Wakonda Fire Department and is a Trustee on the Calvary Lutheran Church Board in Irene. Scott Moore: Scott started in the auction business in 1999 after graduating from Continental Auction School in Mankato, MN. He also has a degree in Ag banking from Lake Area Tech in Watertown, SD. He currently works at Sioux Falls Regional Livestock in Worthing, SD and Tri-State Livestock in Sioux Center, IA. He also farms with his brother near Centerville, SD. Scott is also a licensed real estate auctioneer. Scott currently lives in Centerville, SD with his wife Natalie and is an active member of the Centerville Fire Department. Richard Sorensen: Rich is a cousin to Mike and Ken and has been a part of the auction business since 2009. He is a graduate from Dakota State University with a degree in graphic design. He worked for several years as a desginer for Lyle Signs and Fireball Decals before coming to work full-time with the family in the Winter of 2012. Richard currently designs all of Girard's full colored brochures and ads. Rich also attended Continental Auction School in Mankato, MN in the Fall of 2011. He is also a loyal member of the WFD. |
